One of my favorite things to do in New York City a One of my favorite things to do in New York City and it only costs $6! But seriously, the @theseaglasscarousel in Battery Park is a downtown Manhattan staple and one that not everyone knows about. Definitely add this to your NYC itinerary.
Have you heard about the rooftop lounge in Powell Have you heard about the rooftop lounge in Powell everyone keeps talking about? We had date night at the new @lanirooftop the other night (our second time there) and it did not disappoint. My only regret is that we didn’t also order the Caesar salad because it’s my favorite, but we absolutely did not have room to order anything else. The Harissa Roast Cauliflower was our favorite this time, but there was not a bad bite to be found. And if you’re looking for a NA beverage, they have a great list of refreshers or you can ask the bartender to make you something off menu. Speaking of the bartenders, they’re fantastic and I highly recommend sitting at the bar if you want a different vibe or it’s not patio weather outside. Save this one for your next Columbus night out! @visitdelohio @visit_powell @experiencecolumbus #columbusohio #cbusfoodscene #cbusfoodbloggers #lanirooftop #delawareohio

Prep all your toppings ahead of time, then when you’re in need of a quick dinner, let the kids choose their favorite mashed potato flavor and top to their hearts’ desire. Our current obsession is adding chicken nuggets, black beans, corn, shredded cheddar and bbq sauce for a little southwestern loaded potato bowl. But the possibilities are endless and with everyone building their own, they can make it exactly how they want it. This trip felt incredibly important. My grandmothe This trip felt incredibly important. My grandmother turned 104 this past weekend, her sister turning 100 not too long ago, and the loss of their brother and sister-in-law (both over 100) earlier this year. I hope we have them both for years to come, but I’m also so grateful that my kids have had the chance to build memories with them. It’s easy to think there will always be another visit, but this weekend was a reminder to soak up every moment you can and to always, always be willing to listen to that one story for the millionth time because they love sharing it.

10 ways to get creative for National Best Friends Day with your kids

This past year has been such an incredible year for friendship for the boys. Liam is making that transition from little kid to big kid and he’s learning what it means to be a good friend and build those relationships. And for Caleb, this is the first year where he’s really made friends of his own, aside from tagging along with Liam and his group of friends. Today, June 8th, is National Best Friends Day and I wanted to give the boys some creative ideas of how they can celebrate it with their closest friends. Keep scrolling to read how you can encourage your kids to celebrate National Best Friends Day too!

National Best friends day ideas
1. Send a card

Liam learned what a penpal is this year and it’s one of his favorite things to do. Not only is it fun for him to get something in the mail, but he loves being able to write letters to his friends about the things he likes to do and what we’ve been up to lately.

Bonus: it’s also a great reason for him to practice his penmanship.

2. Plan a park playdate

My kids love getting together with their friends at the park. National Best Friends Day seems like it’s the perfect excuse to get everyone together for a playdate.

3. Make a friendship bracelet

I remember friendship bracelets as a kid and they were so much fun to make and receive. LEGO® DOTS bracelets are such a fun and unique spin on the old school friendship bracelet. Each bracelet kit includes an adjustable band and lots of bold, colorful tiles. It’s so easy for kids to design and customize their own unique bracelets. At JOANN, they start at just $4.99 for a single bracelet pack and $5.99 for a package of two.

4. Start a new BFF tradition

Encourage your child to start a new tradition with a special friend. It could be going out for ice cream in celebration of National Best Friends Day, a special day trip to the local zoo or something that they can do together and look forward to repeating every year.

5. Do a random act of kindness

Being a good friend isn’t just about spending time with the people who know you best. This is a great time to brainstorm with your kids about what kinds of qualities a good friend should have. Modeling those qualities everywhere we go, even towards those we don’t know well, can build character and make us better people. Plus, it will also brighten someone’s day.

6. Create some friendship art

Art is such a fun way for kids to express themselves. One of the reasons why my kids love LEGO® DOTS is that it incorporates their love of LEGOS and inspires them to be creative in such a unique way. The LEGO® DOTS Creative Designer Box includes assembly guides for five customizable DOTS items, including a desk organizer and a picture frame, making it perfect for gift giving.

Or you can check out the LEGO® DOTS Big Message Board set and your child can put together an encouraging message for their friend.

These sets include lots of colorful tiles and shapes to design anything they dream up, but you can also add other DOTS kits to add in more colors and endless options. It’s a really fun spin on arts and crafts time! Check out all the different LEGO® DOTS kits at JOANN.

7. Take a picture together

Grabbing a photo of your child and their BFF is a really special way to celebrate National Best Friends Day. My kids love getting photos with their friends. Have them take a nice smiling photo together and then encourage them to take a silly one to really let their personalities shine.

8. Make a video call

Video chatting has been such a blessing to our family, especially over the last couple of years. It’s the next best thing when you aren’t able to get together with someone in person. My kids have found that it’s a great way to do a quick check in with their friends or bond over silly face filters while they’re chatting.

9. Coordinate a neighborhood ball game

This might be one of our current favorite things to do during the summer. Our neighborhood park has a big field in the middle of it, making it the perfect spot for the kids to get together for a game of wiffle ball or kickball. Have your kids round up some of their neighborhood friends and get a game going for a really fun evening.

10. Say something nice

Celebrating National Best Friend Day doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. Have your child think about what they like about their closest friends. Are they kind? Good at school or sports? Is there something they do really well or was there a situation where they went out of their way to do something nice for someone else? Encourage your child to share their thoughts with their friend.

Now you have some great ideas on how to make National Best Friends Day special for your child and their bestie!
