Have you heard about the rooftop lounge in Powell Have you heard about the rooftop lounge in Powell everyone keeps talking about? We had date night at the new @lanirooftop the other night (our second time there) and it did not disappoint. My only regret is that we didn’t also order the Caesar salad because it’s my favorite, but we absolutely did not have room to order anything else. The Harissa Roast Cauliflower was our favorite this time, but there was not a bad bite to be found. And if you’re looking for a NA beverage, they have a great list of refreshers or you can ask the bartender to make you something off menu. Speaking of the bartenders, they’re fantastic and I highly recommend sitting at the bar if you want a different vibe or it’s not patio weather outside. Prep all your toppings ahead of time, then when you’re in need of a quick dinner, let the kids choose their favorite mashed potato flavor and top to their hearts’ desire. Our current obsession is adding chicken nuggets, black beans, corn, shredded cheddar and bbq sauce for a little southwestern loaded potato bowl. This trip felt incredibly important. My grandmothe This trip felt incredibly important. My grandmother turned 104 this past weekend, her sister turning 100 not too long ago, and the loss of their brother and sister-in-law (both over 100) earlier this year. I hope we have them both for years to come, but I’m also so grateful that my kids have had the chance to build memories with them. It’s easy to think there will always be another visit, but this weekend was a reminder to soak up every moment you can and to always, always be willing to listen to that one story for the millionth time because they love sharing it.

Visiting The Farm at Walnut Creek in Ohio Amish Country

I’ve been wanting to visit the Farm at Walnut Creek in Ohio Amish Country for a while now. It’s hard to get a day with Jamie’s work schedule and taking a long day trip with both boys feels really intimidating. But not anymore! We made plans with some friends to drive out there for the farm’s annual Fall Festival. Sugarcreek is about two hours from Columbus, but despite the long car ride and a bout of car sickness from the windy back roads, Liam and I both agreed that the trip was totally worth it.

The Farm at Walnut Creek is probably most well known for the many animals that live there. In addition to the normal animals you might expect to find at a farm like horses, sheep and cows, they also have buffalo, llamas, zebras and camels. Plus the favorite from our trip – the giraffes! You can hand feed all the animals in their Animal Park. They have the option of driving your own car or you can take a horse drawn wagon ride. We opted to ride the wagon so that we could all sit together.

Liam did so great! Even when a llama tried to steal his food bucket, Liam was able to hold onto it with the help of a new friend.

Caleb and I didn’t feed the animals (wrangling a toddler is difficult enough), but we did enjoy petting any animals that stuck their noses our way.

Everyone loved feeding the zebra.

But the highlight, of course, were the giraffes.

After the wagon ride, we were able to take our leftover feed to the camels. They were so excited to see us.

The fall festival happens every year in October. Weekday activities (Monday-Thursday) are a little abbreviated from the full list and include a corn box, pumpkin slingshot, straw castle, maze, scavenger hunt and wagon rides through the animal park. On the weekends (Friday and Saturday), the Farm also has horse-shoeing and blacksmithing demonstrations, apple butter cooking, sorghum cooking, and demonstrations for candle carving, spinning and weaving, broom making and basket weaving. I would love to check out the fall festival on a weekend next year, but the weekday activities were plenty.

Liam and his friends said that their favorite activity of the day was the pumpkin slingshot.

But they also clearly enjoyed the straw castle.

We packed in our own lunches since the Farm at Walnut Creek has picnic areas. But they also have food for sale during the fall festival. The kettle corn and apple cider are so yummy. They’re also the perfect snack for the ride home. Which was right at nap time for us, so I had a blissfully quiet drive home. The perfect ending to a really fun day. We can’t wait to visit again!

okay, this FARM IS AMAZING!!! I wish we had something like this!! I took my daughter to a small petting zoo last week and she LOVED IT! We realized all the animals were obsessed with carrots…instead of the broccoli and lettuce that the farm gave us to feed them hahah. Glad you all had such a great time! I enjoyed these photos!

The slingshot would have been my favorite too haha. I love the random animals that you wouldn’t think would be there. Unfortunately for us californians it is still in the 90 degree weather and almost horrible to go to a pumpking patch. And ours aren’t this cool. You guys looked like you had fun, I’ll live vicariously through your pictures haha.

Visited this incredible location for the first time 2 years ago as part of a group that my husband belongs too. Such a fun experience feeding the animals, etc. and NEVER knew it was there prior to the group outing. Looks like you had a wonderful time!
