One of my favorite things to do in New York City a One of my favorite things to do in New York City and it only costs $6! But seriously, the @theseaglasscarousel in Battery Park is a downtown Manhattan staple and one that not everyone knows about. Definitely add this to your NYC itinerary.
Have you heard about the rooftop lounge in Powell Have you heard about the rooftop lounge in Powell everyone keeps talking about? We had date night at the new @lanirooftop the other night (our second time there) and it did not disappoint. My only regret is that we didn’t also order the Caesar salad because it’s my favorite, but we absolutely did not have room to order anything else. The Harissa Roast Cauliflower was our favorite this time, but there was not a bad bite to be found. And if you’re looking for a NA beverage, they have a great list of refreshers or you can ask the bartender to make you something off menu. Speaking of the bartenders, they’re fantastic and I highly recommend sitting at the bar if you want a different vibe or it’s not patio weather outside. Save this one for your next Columbus night out! @visitdelohio @visit_powell @experiencecolumbus #columbusohio #cbusfoodscene #cbusfoodbloggers #lanirooftop #delawareohio

It’s much smaller than their Powell location, but the same vibes and great food and drinks are there. Need an easy back-to-school meal prep hack? #ad Th Need an easy back-to-school meal prep hack? #ad These @idahoanfoods mashed potato cups are the perfect thing. Prep all your toppings ahead of time, then when you’re in need of a quick dinner, let the kids choose their favorite mashed potato flavor and top to their hearts’ desire. Our current obsession is adding chicken nuggets, black beans, corn, shredded cheddar and bbq sauce for a little southwestern loaded potato bowl. But the possibilities are endless and with everyone building their own, they can make it exactly how they want it. These Idahoan mashed potato cups are incredibly convenient and are ready to eat in just minutes. Stock up at your local grocery store! #idahoanfoods #idahoan #easydinnerideas #mealprep
This trip felt incredibly important. My grandmothe This trip felt incredibly important. My grandmother turned 104 this past weekend, her sister turning 100 not too long ago, and the loss of their brother and sister-in-law (both over 100) earlier this year. I hope we have them both for years to come, but I’m also so grateful that my kids have had the chance to build memories with them. It’s easy to think there will always be another visit, but this weekend was a reminder to soak up every moment you can and to always, always be willing to listen to that one story for the millionth time because they love sharing it.
How is it that just two years ago we were sitting How is it that just two years ago we were sitting at one of our favorite places telling the kids our family was about to grow by one more, and then this weekend that same little girl was sitting at the table stealing bites of everyone’s cake and ice cream? Meet the Maker | Tabitha Zavala + a GIVEAWAY

January 27, 2016      featured shops, giveaways, meet the maker, stylish kids      5 Comments

This blog post may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

The next woman I’d like to introduce you to as part of my Meet the Maker series is Tabitha Zavala. Her shop, Sol Tide Kids, is fairly new, but it has really taken off. Tabitha is a great example of how you can figure out what you love to do and then turn it into something that fits into the life you want. I hope you enjoy hearing from her as much as I did:

kidsfashion_littlefirebrigade_1Tell us a little about yourself and how you got here. Where did you get the idea to start Sol Tide Kids?
I majored in Fashion design and currently work as a senior designer. I absolutely love job, but after my son was born, I wanted to be home with him more. It has been really hard for me to leave him every morning and I began to think – how can I do what I love and still be at home with my baby? I was totally inspired by all the other small shops and their stories.

When I launched Sol Tide kids, I wanted to introduce unisex graphic tees inspired by the easy effortless California lifestyle. Something that just made dressing easy for mom and baby, would go with outfit but still trendy.

Where did Sol Tide Kids get its name?
Since I wanted the line to be about the California lifestyle, I knew it has to be something around the sun and the ocean. It had to be a name that represents California’s magical beach towns, desert wild lands and adventurous mountaintops. When I thought of Sol Tide Kids I knew that name fully embodied children’s fun loving spirits and it was exactly what I wanted to base this brand on.

Who inspires you the most? kidsfashion_littlefirebrigade_3
I would have to say my son inspires me the most. He inspires me to continue to do what I love and to be the best mom and wife I can be. I wake up every morning and thank God for my beautiful family and have to pinch myself at times because I feel truly blessed beyond what I deserve.

What are the best and hardest things about being your own boss?
I would have to say the best part about being your own boss is having the freedom to be creative and having no limits. I am still working full time at my job so hopefully this leads me to be at home with my son, which is my ultimate goal.

The most difficult part about being your own boss is praying that all your hard work pays off and being incredibly patient and persistent.

What advice would you share with other women entrepreneurs?
Don’t ever give up. It will happen but it takes time, patience and hard work.

What is your favorite item from your shop?
My favorite item is California Love Tee. It really embodies who we are as a brand with the sun and the palm trees and is hand screen printed on AA super soft athletic grey tee.

kidsfashion_littlefirebrigade_5What’s next for Sol Tide Kids?
My dream would be that Sol Tide kids allows me to stay home with my son and still do what I Iove as a fashion designer. I also dream that it becomes a full collection so I really express who this fun outgoing California babe is.

What show(s) are you watching right now?
My guilty pleasure after I put my son to bed is watching The Bachelor and I cannot wait until Game of Thrones returns.

Thank you, Tabitha, for sharing this week! I’m really excited to watch your
brand grow. You can find Tabitha and Sol Tide Kids online at www.soltidekids.com and on Instagram at @soltidekids.

The Meet the Maker series gives me the opportunity to introduce you to some of the makers, creators and artists behind some amazing companies and brands out there. It’s not only a great excuse to share some of the great things these women are doing and how they’re turning their passions into dollars, but it’s also designed to inspire others to say “yes” to their own creative journeys. If you are interested in participating in a Meet the Maker interview, I’d love to chat with you!

Now how about another GIVEAWAY? Entering is really easy and the winner will receive a FREE “Let Them Be Wild” tee (sized 12-18m to 6T). Just head over to the giveaway image on my Instagram page at @littlefirebrigade and follow the steps to enter.

The giveaway will run until Friday, January 29th at midnight EST. A winner will be chosen randomly using random.org and announced both here and on Instagram within 48 hours of the giveaway end. The winner has 24 hours to claim the prize or another winner will be chosen. U.S. residents only, please.
